Data Story – AI at the service of The Cinémathèque suisse: exploring high-impact use cases

The Cinémathèque suisse is recognised by the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF) as one of the world’s ten most important film archives, thanks to the breadth, diversity and quality of its collections.

Demystifying AI: From Understanding to Action

Our introductory workshop on Artificial Intelligence guides participants through key concepts, starting with the basics: what AI is, its different branches, and how these technologies are already transforming the way we work. We explore foundational topics such as supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms, large language models (LLMs), and emerging architectures like Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), which combine internal data sources with the power of generative AI.Beyond the technical aspects, we also address ethical considerations, algorithmic bias, the protection of sensitive data, and the critical importance of data quality for delivering reliable results. Understanding to Drive Concrete Action

Through our workshop, participants gain a clear understanding of AI technologies and their potential for the organisation. Our structured approach helps identify concrete use cases directly aligned with business challenges. Using our prioritisation framework, clients leave with an initial, structured roadmap combining accessible quick wins and more ambitious strategic projects. This process lays a solid foundation for a targeted and well-managed integration of AI.

Ambition

The client wanted to initiate a strategic reflection on Artificial Intelligence in the context of rapidly evolving digital technologies. The objective: to better understand the opportunities AI can offer, assess their relevance to the organisation’s activities, and identify initial implementation pathways.

Challenge

Like many organisations, the client faced strong curiosity around AI but lacked clear guidance to move from general interest to concrete applications. The challenge was to demystify key concepts (machine learning, NLP, GenAI, etc.) while considering business-specific needs, internal maturity levels, and organisational constraints. The aim was also to launch a structured reflection — without falling for the hype — and to anticipate governance, ethical, and change management requirements.

Solution

We designed a tailored workshop that combined pedagogy, inspiration, and structure. The session began with a clear presentation of AI fundamentals — from ML to GenAI — with concrete examples to illustrate each concept. We then introduced business-specific use cases aligned with the client’s activity. Success Stories

This workshop helped us make things more tangible. Synchrotech’s approach — both educational and firmly rooted in the reality of our work — gave us a clearer understanding of AI and helped us start envisioning relevant use cases. We appreciated their expertise, the inspiring examples they shared, and the structured methodology they proposed: clarity and pragmatism that really make you want to move forward.
